About Hola Health

We live in a time of remarkable medical advances. At the same time, the challenges facing our medical system mean that too many Australians do not have access to the healthcare they need.

Wait times are too long, with close to half of all Australian patients seeing a GP for urgent care forced to wait 24 hours or more for treatment, and a quarter of all patients waiting longer for appointments than they feel is acceptable. And the issue is more pronounced in regional areas, compounding existing inequities between urban and rural populations. Add to this an ageing population and the rising costs of going to a GP, and it is clear we need innovative solutions to ensure all Australians can receive timely, quality healthcare.

Enter Lenin and Thiru Rajendran: brothers, entrepreneurs, and creative thinkers with a knack for problem-solving. After successful careers for some of the biggest firms in the tech and engineering industries, the pair moved to Perth, where they decided to apply their skills to address some of the challenges facing Australia today.

The problem for patients was clear, but it was only after speaking with a GP that they realised the true extent of it. The idea that would become Hola Health started to form. They got to work building a secure platform that would allow remote consultations with AHPRA-registered doctors. The potential benefits to patients were obvious: no longer would they have to wait days for an appointment or leave the house for a medical visit. But as Dr Gopalan reminded them, the system would also suit underworked physicians, who could pick up extra work during the evening or lunch breaks during peak times.

From that simple idea, Hola Health evolved into a digital platform that facilitates over 40,000 consultations with the touch of a button. Every day, thousands of patients across Australia receive much-needed medical attention in the safety and convenience of their homes, affordably and when they need it. And while the sheer number of Australians who can now receive the care they need is impressive, the brothers say it’s the quality of that care that makes them most proud.

In the three years since, Hola Health has reshaped the landscape of healthcare accessibility in Australia. What began as a mission to deliver medicine quickly has evolved into a thriving platform seamlessly connecting patients, pharmacies and doctors, irrespective of place or time. But the team is far from finished. There are more vital medical services that remain out of reach for many Australians and more work to be done making healthcare available to all.

The Hola Health Leadership Team

After working in marketing for over a decade, it’s safe to say that Matthew Dunstan knows a thing or two (or ten) about driving growth in Australia’s competitive business landscapes.

Stints in the banking and finance sectors helped hone his services marketing credentials, but today Matthew is happiest working for purpose-led brands making innovative products.

As our Chief Marketing and Growth Officer, Matthew is responsible for spearheading the strategic growth we need to ensure all Australians can receive the healthcare they need.

When he’s not launching patents or developing strategic partnerships with organisations like Healthengine and Uber Eats, Matthew can be found with his head in a book or playing sport with his family.

Oliver Tweddell

Head of Operations

It was the path less travelled that led Oliver Tweddell to the beating heart of Perth’s startup scene. As an Elite sailor and coach in Victoria, Oliver loved the challenge of pushing himself and others to the limits of their physical abilities. At the same time, he found himself increasingly drawn to the world of startups, where relentless competition and the need for high performance mirror his experience in sports. After working in crypto, Oliver caught the tech bug and decided to move into operations. Today, he brings the same drive and tenacity that led him to success on the open seas to Hola Health, turbocharging our operational capacity and building a strong team culture obsessed with success.

The Hola Health Leadership Team

Lenin Rajendran

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

As CEO, Lenin Rajendran is responsible for delivering on Hola Health’s single-minded mission: to bring affordable healthcare to every Australian without compromising on quality or safety. It’s a passion that has been with him, in one form or another, since a young age. Raised in a family that often relied on the help of their community, Lenin saw first-hand what it meant to be on the receiving end of meaningful care.

His career started as an engineer with BHP, but after nine years his growing interest in entrepreneurship led him to pursue an MBA. While developing his business skills, Lenin began dreaming up ideas for startups that would solve real-world problems affecting those around him. But it was a personal experience that led him to healthcare: When Lenin’s infant son fell ill, he went looking for a service to bring him the medicines he needed. After finding that no such services existed, he and his brother Thiru decided to create one.

As CEO of Hola Health, Lenin spends his time driving the company’s growth and designing the strategies that will deliver on its mission of ensuring quality healthcare accessibility for all Australians.

Thiru Rajendran

Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer

Thiru Rajendran has always been passionate about the creative potential of technology. Looking up to his uncle, an early tech entrepreneur, Thiru studied IT and robotics at university, before completing a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he founded his own IT business with his uncle, and quickly began working with some of the resources sector’s biggest companies. The projects were massive, running into the billions of dollars. But his true passion – creating innovative solutions for himself – never waned.

After moving to Perth, Thiru started thinking about how he could use his software and engineering expertise to solve problems closer to home. When his brother Lenin mentioned he’d had trouble procuring medicine for his son after hours, Thiru asked Dr Vishnu Gopalan, his family GP, whether he thought there were other gaps in the healthcare system that they might close with innovative technology. After some late-night brainstorming sessions, Hola Health was born.

Today, Thiru is busy building Hola’s digital architecture, delivering innovative solutions to ensure the platform continues to put quality healthcare in the palms of all Australians.

Dr Vishnu Gopalan

Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer

As the company’s CMO, Dr Vishnu Gopalan brings a wealth of clinical and operational experience to Hola Heath, ensuring the platform goes beyond compliance to provide best-practice care to the thousands of patients who rely on it daily. It’s an expertise built on decades of hard work. After completing his medical training in the UK, Dr Gopalan moved to Australia, where he later started a successful practice – Spectrum Health – focusing on diabetes, skin cancers and mental health.

Worried about Australia’s doctor shortages, he decided to play his part in finding a solution by opening a second clinic. And then a third. Eight years and 45 clinics (and counting) later, his company, Spectrum Health, is now the largest primary healthcare group in Western Australia. But still Dr Gopalan wanted to do more to close the healthcare gap. Which is why he has joined Lenin and Thiru in their mission to bring Hola Health to all Australians, no matter where or when they need it.
