A TFT may be recommended if you have symptoms or signs that suggest changes in your thyroid activity.

A TFT evaluates hormone levels that reflect how well the thyroid gland is functioning.

• • TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)- indicates how strongly the thyroid gland is being stimulated.
  • Free T4 (FT4)- measures the level of available thyroid hormone in the blood.
  • Free T3 (FT3)- shows the active form of thyroid hormone in the bloodstream.

Together, these results are interpreted to assess overall thyroid function.

At a high level, a TFT can help detect or monitor thyroid-related issues.

• Underactive or overactive thyroid activity

Results are considered alongside other clinical information.

Preparation for a TFT is usually simple.

• Fasting is not usually required.
• Take medications as advised by your doctor
• Inform your doctor about supplements, especially iodine or biotin
• Try to get repeat tests done at the same time of day for consistency.
