Online Specialist Referral Letters

You will be asked to fill out a request form detailing your symptoms, needs, and some medical history. One of our registered doctors will then call you for a short consultation before issuing an online referral letter to a specialist.

Hola, online referrals (specialist or health checks) often include the following information:

• The referring doctor’s information, including name, contact details, provider number, and signature.
• The date of the referral.
• The clinical details or any relevant or timely medical information.

Sometimes the referral is general in nature, which means it doesn’t include the name of a specific specialist. You can always ask your online Doctor for a recommendation.

You will receive an SMS from Hola when your test results are available, with a link to book a follow-up consultation. Follow-up consults are available from $29. You can also contact support@hola.health if you’d like your results forwarded to your GP. 

Yes, you can share your preferred specialist’s details with our GP during your consultation. If the doctor approves your request for a referral to the specialist you choose, the letter will be sent to your email within a few minutes.

If you don’t have a specific specialist in mind, that’s fine too. Your telehealth doctor can refer you to an appropriate specialist in your area.

According to Services Australia, the referral typically remains valid for 12 months from the date the specialist first sees the patient, unless specified otherwise.

Once the specialist letter is issued by our GP, you will get the online referral on your phone. The patient needs to give the referral to the specialist themselves. Hola does not share it directly with the specialists.

In general, no, we are a national service, and Doctors cannot provide recommendations on specialists who might be on the other side of the country. Patient needs to choose their own specialist.

If you require a specialist referral to be amended, it must be requested after your consultation so it may be assessed and reviewed by the issuing doctor.

If you realise your referral has expired when you arrive at your specialist appointment, you can request a new one online with Hola Health. Just complete a short online assessment and have a telehealth consult in minutes to receive a referral quickly.

Yes, because Hola Health operates 24/7, you can consult with an after-hours GP online at any time. If they determine a specialist referral is clinically appropriate for your condition, it will be sent to your email shortly after your consultation.
