Are online medical certificates legal in Australia?
Yes. Online medical certificates are legally valid in Australia when issued by an AHPRA-registered doctor or nurse practitioner after a clinical assessment. The Fair Work Ombudsman accepts certificates issued online in the same way as certificates provided during an in-person consultation.

A medical certificate from an AHPRA-registered practitioner is one of the most common types, whether you saw them online or in person. Your workplace may have its own rules, so it’s worth checking.
Do I need a doctor's certificate for one day of sick leave?

That’s why the assessment date is what counts, not an earlier date you were unwell.
