  • Low sperm count (oligospermia) – decreased number of sperm, impacting fertility.
  • No sperm (azoospermia) – lack of sperm in semen
  • Poor sperm motility is the diminished capacity of sperm to move efficiently.
  • Abnormal sperm morphology – uneven form that affects fertilisation
  • Hormonal abnormalities impact sperm production.
Sperm analysis can use a variety of characteristics to determine fertility.

  • Sperm count – the quantity of sperm present in semen
  • Motility analysis – movement and swimming capacity of sperm.
  • Morphology assessment – form and structure of sperm
  • Semen volume – the amount of semen produced.

These characteristics together give a comprehensive assessment of male reproductive health.

The results include sperm quantity, motility, and structure. Abnormal findings may indicate reproductive difficulties and necessitate more testing or therapy. Multiple tests are frequently suggested for proper evaluation.

  • The results might differ between samples.
  • Temporary circumstances, such as stress or sickness, may influence findings.
  • A single test might not offer a complete picture.
  • Additional testing may be necessary for the diagnosis.

Note: While a GP can provide a referral via telehealth, a physical examination by an in-person doctor is often necessary to fully investigate symptoms such as testicular lumps, swelling, or erectile dysfunction.”
  • Avoid ejaculation two to five days before the test.
  • Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs.
  • Inform your doctor about any medications or supplements.
  • Follow the instructions for sample collection carefully.
  • Ensure that the sample is provided within the acceptable timeframe.
