Pathology involves the study and diagnosis of diseases through the examination of tissues, organs, bodily fluids, and other specimens.

If pathology testing is recommended, your GP will issue a pathology referral online. This referral will be sent to you via email.

Pathology tests may be bulk billed by many pathology centres. Please get in touch with your local centre for their fee schedule. Find out more about pathology bulk billing here.

With the referral in hand, you can contact a pathology centre to schedule your appointment. Some pathology tests require a booking, please call the pathology collection centre to check for their booking requirements.

Pathology referrals can be used for up to 12 months from the date of the referral in Australia.
