Absence from Work Certificate

Any medical certificate when approved and issued by an AHPRA-registered health practitioner, either online with Hola or via in-person consultation, is typically accepted. It meets all the requirements of the Fair Work Act 2009. However, some employers or universities might have specific policies regarding work sick leave. It’s always best to check their guidelines.

Therefore, doctors are expected to issue sick certificates with the date of assessment to maintain integrity and accuracy.

A valid work absence certificate, whether online or in-person, must contain – 

• Provider’s name and address 

• Patient’s name 

• Date of the consultation 

• Dates the patient is unfit for work. 
• Practitioner’s name & signature 
• Practitioner’s registration number
