Are imaging scans bulk-billed?‍

Many clinics bulk-bill these tests, meaning there is no cost if you have Medicare. It is a good idea to call the radiology clinic first to ask about their fees and bulk billing options, as whilst we can request bulk billing for you, billing decisions ultimately remain with the clinic in question.

Eligibility for bulk billing imaging

• You have a valid Medicare card
• Your scans fall under specific MBS items

How to check

• Ask the Imaging Provider: Before your scan, call and ask if the service will be bulk-billed or if there will be a gap fee.
• Check your card: Bulk billing usually requires a valid Medicare card.
