Frequently Asked Questions
What are Repeat Scripts?
It is a prescription which allows patients to receive medication that was previously prescribed by their doctor. Repeat prescription is usually used for stable, ongoing medicines, but patients still need periodic medical review and a new prescription when repeats run out or the prescription expires.
Can I get a repeat prescription without seeing a doctor in clinic?
Yes. By law, an AHPRA-registered doctor must review your request to ensure it is clinically safe to issue a script. Hola Health makes this fast and simple by replacing the physical clinic waiting room with a quick, secure online video chat.
How do eScripts work for repeat medications?
Your prescription arrives as a digital token (a unique QR code) via SMS and email. Most Australian pharmacies can dispense electronic prescriptions. The pharmacist scans the QR code to retrieve the prescription. Alternatively, you can choose our partner chemist delivery service during checkout to have your medication delivered straight to your door on the same day.
How long is a repeat script valid for in Australia?
Most standard prescriptions are valid for 12 months from the date the doctor writes them. However, prescriptions for specific restricted or closely monitored medications expire after 6 months.
What medications can’t be prescribed for repeats via telehealth?
Our doctors cannot prescribe Schedule 8 or Schedule 4D controlled medicines via telehealth. This includes strong opioid painkillers, benzodiazepines, and sleeping tablets carrying a risk of dependence.
What if I need a new script or renew my script?
If you need a script for a medicine, you are not currently taking, you must book a standard telehealth consultation . The doctor needs to discuss your health history, assess the safety of the treatment, and ensure it is the right option for you before prescribing it for the first time. Note: Some new medicines may not be suitable for telehealth prescribing and may require an in-person GP appointment, examination, blood pressure check, pathology testing or other monitoring.
How long does it take to get a prescription?
It takes minutes with Hola Health. Requests are usually reviewed promptly after your telehealth consultation with our GP. If approved, your online prescription is sent instantly via SMS. Processing times may vary based on demand and clinical requirements.
Is Hola Health certified?
Hola Health is LegitScript-certified. LegitScript is an independent certification service that reviews certain healthcare and telehealth businesses for compliance, transparency and safety standards.
Do repeats expire?
Yes, when the main script reaches its expiry date, all unused repeats become invalid.
Can you use repeats after expiry?
No, you need a new prescription from a GP. Start a telehealth consult with Hola Health now.
Tip: If you have run out of an essential medicine, ask a pharmacist or doctor about urgent options. Do not stop important medicines suddenly without medical advice.
How to renew repeats?
How many repeats can I get?
The number of repeats varies. Not all prescriptions have the exact repeat count. Your doctor decides based on clinical judgement. They consider your condition, the type, and how closely you need monitoring.
How to check how many repeats I have left
- SMS token text or app view: If you have a token-based eScript, your original message may show a repeat count. Some apps display this too.
- Ask your pharmacy to check: Community pharmacies may have access to your dispensing record. They can tell you exactly how many repeats remain.
- Active Script List view with consent: If your prescription is on ASL, your pharmacy can check your active eScripts.
- Ask your GP during consultation: Your doctor may be able to access your prescription records and confirm details.
